Bamboo flooring is a great option. Even though bamboo is a plant, it is installed just the same as any hardwood, usually glued down on concrete or nailed on a wood subfloor. With many beautiful unique looks bamboo could make your home even more special than it is. Just remember bamboo could be a bit more maintenance.
